COVID-19 Response

Setting Up Online Teaching and Learning Sessions

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, and following the advice of the Ministry of Health Malaysia and the Sarawak State Disaster Management Committee, you are strongly encouraged to realign your course delivery by adopting the Blended Learning (Substitution) approach . Please stay alert for the latest updates about COVID-19 by UNIMAS Chancellery (UNIMAS Global) via broadcast email as well as UNIMAS Now app.

Keep Calm and Teach Online

eLEAP has many features that you can utilise to set up your online teaching and learning sessions rapidly. You can also embed free external tools as part of your online Resources and Activities into eLEAP. The following section covers some useful suggestions that you can implement on your eLEAP course page.

Please contact if you do not have an eLEAP page for your course.

In teaching online, you will have to ensure you have checked with your students on their ability to get connected before choosing the best online teaching option. It is highly advisable for you (as the course instructor) to get in touch with your students prior to the implementation of online learning. Reach out to them either personally or get the help of some class representatives or group leaders. Refer to this page for available options (Asynchronous vs Synchronous)

Setup Your Resources

Learning resources and materials can be uploaded on eLEAP to allow students to learn remotely.
Here are some tips on how to upload your lecture slides/notes
  • Save your slides/notes in PDF and upload them in your eLEAP course page.
  • You may also directly upload your slides in PowerPoint (PPT/PPTX) format.
  • Name your file according to the topic or learning unit for easy navigation.
Refer to this guide page for full step-by-step guide.
Teaching videos are also useful to assist students grasp the essential learning content. You may consider the following options:

  • Pre-Recorded Videos:
Use camera-enabled devices (smartphone, laptop, webcam) to record your teaching | Screencast-O-matic to record what is shown on your screen (e.g. PowerPoint show, word document) with your voice-over explanations | Loom (Simple-to-use ScreenCasting)

Step-by-Step Guide on how to use the tools above is available in the eLEAP Guide page here.
You may also consider adding links to useful resources, which are curated from different reliable sources (e.g. journal papers, news articles, eBooks, infographics, etc
  • Get the link/URL and add it on your course page according to the unit or week. Refer to this guide page for full step-by-step guide.
  • You may also embed them by using content sharing tools such as SlideShare or SpeakerDeck

Setup Your Activities

Activties are important for you to check if students have understood the course content. It is highly recommended that you create 1-2 activities per unit of content. These activities can cover the following options which are mainly available on eLEAP:
Remind students that their attendance is counted based on their participation in the activities you have created. You can then input their attendance in the QR Attendance manually.
Refer to this page on how to add/create these activities

Setup Your Assessments

Formative assessments (graded and ungraded) should also be added to assess students' mastery of the learning content. Here are some options for your consideration: Refer to this page on how to add/create these assessments

Communicate With Students

Communicate with your students on your changes in the class implementation. Provide your contact details (e.g. email, online office hours, etc.) to them. You can also make use of free communication tools such as Telegram Messenger | WhatsApp | Microsoft Teams to form virtual groups with your students (or class representatives/group leaders). This would allow you to reach out to the students directly.

Feel free to check out more features in eLEAP by going to the Guide for Academics
